We are seeking a fulltime 2-year term Marketing Advisor to support the Medicine Hat Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) and the APEX Entrepreneurship Incubator in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

The Medicine Hat DMO is an industry-led non-profit organization that exists to strengthen Medicine Hat's tourism profile through destination awareness. The DMO is the trusted leader in promoting Medicine Hat’s tourism experience. Tourism Medicine Hat is delivered by the DMO through a fee-for-service contract with the City of Medicine Hat that began on January 1st 2015.

This position works in cooperation with APEX, a partnership that includes the following organizations:

The partnership is formerly known as APEX and is Southeast Alberta's Regional Innovation Network. APEX's vision is to create a globally competitive region for innovation and technology in Southeast Alberta. APEX strives to support local entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises to develop and adopt new technologies, commercialize innovative new products, and improve productivity. This partnership has successfully received funding to support the APEX Entrepreneurship Incubator for 2 years.

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of the DMO, this role provides oversight, supporting strategic direction, industry development and support, relationship building, and facilitating educational initiatives as applicable. The Tourism Medicine Hat team builds on what Medicine Hat and area have to offer the visitor; by working with stakeholders to develop and grow their business.

This position will also work with the APEX partnership to promote the newly funded APEX Entrepreneurship Incubator and APEX services as a hole. This includes print materials along with electronic, such as the website and social media. In addition, they will assist the APEX Entrepreneurship Advisors in providing support to clients in need of marketing expertise. This could include, but is not limited to, tourism entrepreneurial clients, and underemployed post secondary grads and former oil and gas workers.

Your role includes:

·         Supporting the mandates of the DMO and APEX

·         Coordinating the production of communication tools from electronic to print, including costing and liaising with printers and vendors.

·         Conducting ongoing research to ensure communication tools are designed within the context of media and design trends relevant to target audiences.

·         Assisting in the development of new marketing initiatives for APEX, the DMO, and the tourism industry.

·         Providing marketing coaching and advisory services to local businesses and potential start-ups.

·         Document and complete required reporting functions.

·         Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

·         Marketing and communications experience.

·         Value & consideration given to experience within the tourism industry.

·         Ability to work with multiple associates who have partnered to create this position.

·         Experience identifying needs and creating gap assessments.

·         Flexibility to be effective in diverse situations with an assortment of stakeholders.

·         Ability to develop positive working relationships

·         Highly skilled communicator and conduct presentations with multiple groups.

·         Exceptional organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.

·         Proficient with web, social media and Microsoft Office.

·         A certificate or diploma in marketing and communications or a related post-secondary program preferred. However, a combination of education and experience may also be relevant.

·         Experience as an entrepreneur would be considered an asset.
