LAARA CASSELLS: e-strange

Laaara Cassells' work spans painting, sculpture, installation and multi-media performances. In this exhibition of new paintings, she tackles the isolation and absorption of the generation dubbed 'the intentionally disengaged'. Cassells juxtaposes images of youth and contemporary popular culture with a more historical painting tradition, the equestrian portrait, celebrating both the disjuncture and the resonance between subjects and medium.

Laara Cassells' work has been presented in numerous exhibitions and performances around the world, including Canada, the United States, Hungary, Korea, Belgium and Italy. Cassells divides her time between Medicine Hat, where she is a faculty member of the Visual Communications Program at Medicine Hat College, and Sundre, Alberta.
