Medicine Hat: The Ultimate Fall Road Trip

Historic Downtown

Experience fall in a small city.

Downtown Historic Building Tour

Historic buildings line the streets and avenues in Medicine Hat's downtown. And inside, you'll find coffee shops, bakeries, and local boutiques. Some bricks you'll spot were manufactured locally in the early 1900s, during the city's booming clay and pottery industry.

Indy Coffee Tour

A hot cup of coffee on a cooler day, while strolling a historic downtown and browsing local small shops is the perfect fall experience. Find a Poolhouse Roastery & Cafe, Station Coffee Company, and Nosh. downtown, and more coffee shops around the city. All within walking distance, all serving creative and cozy beverages. Plan your visit around a Festive Flavours Sunshine & Café Market Tour or a guided Indy Coffee Tour.

Downtown Bakery Tour

Find that feeling when you walk into a bakery and are amazed at all the beautiful and delicious options in downtown Medicine Hat. There are six bakeries in the heart of the city, and more throughout. Pair your tasty beverage with a freshly baked treat before hitting the streets to browse local boutiques.

Local Boutique Shopping

Inside the historic buildings in downtown Medicine Hat, you'll find your coffee, decadent bakery treats, and a variety of retail options from clothing to records, brand new and thrifted. Meet the owners, meet the locals, and bring a piece of Medicine Hat home with you.

City Parks & Trails

After your day in the heart of the city, drive two minutes to a nearby city park and stroll the trails. Order food from a local spot for a picnic, or dine in before surrounding yourself with beautiful fall foliage, cottonwood trees, and the beautiful southern Alberta coulee landscape. There are over 5 City Parks, and 190+ kilometres of paved trails with views of the South Saskatchewan River, and panoramic views of the city.

Local Tip: If you're downtown, hop on Devonian Trail on foot (located alongside the South Saskatchewan River and behind the Medicine Hat Public Library) and this will bring you into Strathcona Island Park in under 15 minutes. Find the full trail map here.
