Medicine Hat residents have many recreational facilities including more than 115 kilometers of trails and many parks, green spaces and off-leash areas.

Golf courses, many indoor and outdoor pools, indoor ice rinks, a skateboard park and numerous soccer fields, baseball diamonds and tennis courts. There are sport and recreation facilities available all year round.

The city is the shopping center for south eastern Alberta and brings shoppers from neighboring Saskatchewan looking to take advantage of the lack of a provincial sales tax. Familiar retail outlets as well as unique, locally owned and operated stores can be found throughout the city.


Four campgrounds operate within the city with a full range of facilities and hundreds of camping sites. All have access to the trail system, the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 3 providing ease of access to many of the city’s major parks, attractions and businesses.

There are many educational opportunities through the public and Catholic school systems and Medicine Hat College. The city library just celebrated their 100th anniversary in 2015 which demonstrates the city’s long-term dedication to providing access to information and literature.
