The Band and Bugles of The Rifles are a military wind Band based at Sir John Moore Barracks in Winchester, Hampshire and is part of the Corps of Army Music. The band maintains traditions dating back over 200 years, including the use of the silver bugle and the distinctly fast marching speed – 140 paces per minute. The Bugle Platoon comprises 20 infantry soldiers from the five regular Battalions that form The Rifles. Riflemen can be assigned on attachment to The Band and Bugles on completion of an 18-week Bugle Course at the Army School of Ceremonial in Catterick. The band performs at events around the world in a variety of settings including Sounding Retreats, Freedom Parades, Tattoos, community events and other diverse engagements. They also perform as a concert band, church band and have several small ensembles.
